Vi Thuan’s practice relates to all aspects of the acquisition of intellectual property rights, with a particular focus on patentability opinions, patent drafting, and patent prosecution in the electrical, software and mechanical arts.
Vi Thuan assists with intellectual property prosecution services through Perry+Currier Inc. and provides legal services through a separate law practice, Currier+Kao LLP.
Prior to his career in law, Vi Thuan worked for 10 years as a software engineer in the telecommunications industry. He graduated from the University of Toronto’s Engineering Science program with Honours. His areas of specialization include client/server software, analogue to digital conversion, and field programmable gate arrays. He has developed firmware for X.25 switches, software tools for reliability analysis, monitoring software for cellular service providers, and software-routing systems to interface the Internet with various types of cellular networks. He is named as an inventor in several patents in Canada, the United States, and Europe.
